believing in full

Do I believe that God is fully sovereign?

Do I believe that God is fully just?

Do I believe that God is fully present?

Do I believe that God is fully good?

If I believe that God is sovereign, I am free to not be worried. To lift my hands and let it go. To submit to His plan, even when it doesn't make sense to me.

"You will say to me then, "Why does He still find fault? For who resists His will?" On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, "Why did you make me like this," will it? Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use?" Romans 9:19-21

if I believe that God is just, I am free to not feel slighted or abandoned. His will be done, even when it is not what I would have wanted. But I also know He deals gracefully, and this contrast blows my mind.

"Therefore the Lord longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you For the Lord is a God of justice; How blessed are all those who long for Him." Isaiah 30:18

If I believe that God is present, I am free to be valued and not feel left alone. He is present with me. He is present with me always. Even when I cannot see or feel or know it or want Him to be. I will remember some of Jesus' last words:

"Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20

If I believe that God is good, I am free to rejoice in it. I know His plans are good for me, even if they are not good to me. I am free to rejoice in His goodness, and not hold on to my life like it is a carnival ride. He is good. Fully good.

"Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you..." Psalm 31:19

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change." James 1:17

He is sovereign.

He is just.

He is present.

He is good.

Believing the characteristics of who God is is the beginning of our real, abundant faith. Believing fully is to follow Christ and live fully.

When we begin to compromise and shortchange these characteristics of our Creator, we can miss out on the fullness of His character and the fullness of knowing Him.
